Whether you’re seeking out a card for somebody special or a beautiful notebook for all your beautiful ideas, head straight for Ola Studio. An independent paper goods brand specialising in traditional, quality manufacturing, Ola’s lovely aesthetic and considered approach has helped it to stand out from the crowd.
Founded by creative Katy Goutefangea in 2014, Ola Studio is a hot label in the world of stationery, primarily because it takes a painstakingly precise and considered approach to creating each collection. Working only with local manufacturers and using time-honoured methods.
Katy’s background as a studio printmaker and bookbinder, along with a deep interest in and knowledge of historical design and techniques, has shaped the Ola Studio ethos and its dedication to crafting perfect stationery in small batches. ‘Ola is about everyday items that have been designed and developed with patience’ says Katy. ‘The main aim is to create objects that people will enjoy using. I like the idea that time has been devoted to the production of even small, relatively simple items.’
Made with great attention to detail, hand-stitched notebooks and pads created with quality inks and rollers stand out in Ola’s offering; among my favourite items are beautiful cards, marbled pads and pastel prints with copper-toned foil detailing. Every item in the Ola store celebrates pattern, mostly influenced by architecture, abstract geometry and artists favoured by Katie, such as Sol LeWitt, Anni Albers and Donald Judd. These influences and the resulting products have earnt Ola’s gorgeous products a place in some of our favourite bricks and mortar stores, including Quill, TATE and Heal’s.
One of my favourite things about Ola is their new Conscious Collection, a selection of cards created using recycled materials like papers made with citrus and almond production waste. Each card features a hand-stamped foiled graphic and 5% of all profits from the collection go to Cool Earth, a charity that protects our rainforests.
The perfect destination for gifts, greetings cards, wrapping paper and lovely things with which to beautify your home and workspace, Ola Studio works with UK makers, hand printing tests in its London workshop before creating perfect designs with professional binders, printers and creatives. Keep up with Katy, Ola and the company’s stockists and makers, have a read of the Ola Studio journal or find news and more stunning stationery on Instagram and Twitter.
