If like me, comfortable, good-looking crepes are your go-to, you’ll no doubt appreciate my latest style find. Rose Rankin is an eponymous footwear label created by a talented designer that’s successfully piqued the interest of everyone from sneaker heads to supermodels and national press with its bold and beautifully formulated designs.
Specialising in designing and crafting unique trainers, London-based Rose Rankin studied computer aided fashion design and footwear design at Central Saint Martins. Now her creations can be found at some of our favourite boutiques in the city and around the UK.
I had the pleasure of meeting Rose and at The Basics Store, a beautiful multi-brand pop-up in Shoreditch where her label is currently stocked. A wonderfully warm and knowledgable person and a great designer to boot (pun klaxon), Rose has elevated the humble sneak to new heights with her ability to fuse unique patterns and textures with traditional off-duty silhouettes.
Rose Rankin’s products are all about attention to detail; from embroidered logos and iridescent tabs to metallic piping and textural paneling, her shoes are designed in London and created in Portugal by dedicated craftspeople. These babies are all made from leather and calf hair so are soft and breathable but not vegan-friendly (sorry guys). Built on rubber soles and lined with leather, each pair employs bold prints and textural clashes for a tactile finish like no other.
Since customising her first pair of trainers as a child, transforming them from pink to black with layers of acrylic paint, Rose’s flair for blending the humble sneaker with exceptional materials and unique design has earned her many a seal of approval, including mine. The best way to start the year is undoubtedly in a pair of new kicks, and if they’re designed by a talented creative and look as good as Rose Rankin’s all the better.
