What To Expect From Ethos: The Beautiful London Veggie Joint All Over Instagram

A secret garden in the heart of Fitzrovia, all-vegetarian spot Ethos is one of my favourite restaurants. A unique eatery with a bright airy interior complete with magical birch trees sprouting up through the floor, visitors are invited to serve themselves, piling plates high with veggie delights. Take plenty of photos — the curved wood-clad furniture catches the light beautifully, while huge windows let in the sun during the day. The vibe is minimalist and Scandi-inspired with lots of marble, warm wood and exposed bulbs. What’s on the menu? On the round buffet-style tables, you’ll find a mix of foods hailing from…

Bronte: A Restaurant Imagined by Tom Dixon And Loved By Bloggers

Designed by Tom Dixon and his Design Research Studio, Bronte is a dream. Picture lofty ceilings offset by pink concrete, teal and emerald-hued banquettes and signature metallic lighting in brassy and rose-gold tones. Strange artefacts offset the smooth, streamlined aesthetic in some areas, whereas in others, you’ll find nothing but soft velvet curves, hints of malachite and bright lights. Bronte is a luxe central-London joint, and it knows it. What’s on the menu? The standard fare is pan-Asian with sushi, dim sum and bao buns on offer. There’s a choice of not one but three ‘sushi pizzas’ and for the less…

INTERVIEW: Illustrator Chloe Hall

Chloe Hall is a talented illustrator and designer-maker based in Leicester. Balancing her freelance career and part-time work with my friends at gifting and stationery brand Ohh Deer, Chloe creates colourful illustrations inspired by lush petals and foliage in her studio. Living on a narrow boat with two guinea pigs for company, Chloe produces dreamy repeat patterns and striking illustrations that have found their way onto all manner of stationery, into the pages of magazines and of course, onto the front page of this blog. I caught up with Chloe to find out more about her work, her inspirations and where to…

EAT AT: 155 Bar & Kitchen

Perched on Farringdon Road, I love this place for its laid-back vibe, mid-century meets Scandi interior and tasty modern fare. Part of the Clerkenwell London group, 155 Bar & Kitchen gives the impression of a cosy design-led bolt hole. In fact, a nosey from the restaurant into the lounge throws up a much larger space to explore. The vinyl lounge is a scene straight from Don Draper’s living room, with low lighting and expensive-looking vintage chairs making no bones – this is as much a showroom as a cocktail bar. In the small restaurant itself you’ll find only a few tables. It’s intimate…

INTERVIEW: Founder of Type and Story Niccy Iseman

Niccy Iseman is the founder of Type and Story, a contemporary paper goods brand inspired by storytelling. Niccy launched the small independent business earlier this year and since then, its first collection has received a wonderfully positive response from creatives everywhere. Each collection in Type & Story’s offering is based on a different theme. It’s inaugural range, released for SS17, explored the lost art of sign-painting and showcased the calligraphic shapes found in old bespoke signs across beautiful products like jotters, prints and notecards. A talented designer by trade, I caught up with Niccy to find out what it’s like…

Give Artisan Gifts with Inka London

As you know, I love a unique gift especially if it’s lovingly arranged, carefully presented and unquestionably creative. With the holidays on the way, I’ve been thinking long and hard about what my loved ones enjoy, about designer-makers and independent businesses and about different and interesting ways to gift. Christmas hampers are a staple but let’s face it, they’re usually filled with sugar and booze and rarely feature anything handmade. Now, imagine my surprise and delight upon discovering a collection of beautifully curated gift boxes filled with lovely handmade, independently created or expertly designed items. Inka London is a creative…
